The mighty Ohio begins in Pittsburgh and is the source of most of the water of the more famous Mississippi River. In the old days when Pittsburgh was the main steel town in the U.S., steel mills were lined up the Monongahela River, to the right, for 30 miles. The few that are left today are specialty plants that supply the world market with ultra-high-tech products. The river banks have been turned into beautiful recreational areas.
